In the traditional farmhouse and even in the contemporary farmhouse, the kitchen is the center. With the aroma of fresh baked apple pie, or the sizzle of bacon for a farmhouse breakfast, the kitchen is the happiest place on the farm. But, it takes a lot of work to pull it off! Now, I must admit that I didn't really learn how to cook until I was about 30-ish, as my mother really wasn't the cookin' kind! I, like she, learned how to call in my order or just tell the waitress. But, since I've learned how, (by trial and error-my poor family!), we eat much healthier and we save a bunch of money! I believe that cooking is truly an art form, but sadly, it is falling by the wayside. So many people do exactly what I did and just order it, or just push a button and heat it up! Now, modern conveniences are wonderful and all, but when they start taking the place of healthful practices, they become a problem.
